Clipper Ships ruled the waves in the 19th Century, they were sharplined, built for speed and carried a large spread of canvas. The Minnehaha named after the heroine in Longfellow's eipc poem 'The Song of Hiawatha was one of the finest examples of her class.Known as the green yacht from Derry she was commissioned by the McCorkell Shipping Line expressly for the Transatlantic passenger trade. Built in St. John, New Brunwick in 1860, She served the company for 35 years crossing the Atlantic 55 times.
