A Journey Across Years
By: Tom Mongan
These Stories take us on a journey across the years; pre-electricity days and nights growing up behind the Twelve Bens of Connemara in a thatched cottage, with the Atlantic Ocean coming up to touch a field of wild flowers just in front of the house.
It takes us inside the walls of the local national school, into the Catholic church and out into the meadows where the hay is saved as the birds look down and sing their song. It takes us out milking cows, growing crops and gathering eggs.
in the stories we drink tea with visitors, get our fortunes told and hear crickets sing their song from the chimney breast. we hear singers ann musicians on the gramophone and hear music, songs and stories on the radio.
There are moments of the great sorrow and of joy as the postman arrives with letters from America.
It is a simple story of growing up in rural Ireland in another era. Hope you can join on this journey
