Traditional Irish May Fishing Flies

Here is a selection of popular Irish May flies.

As the name suggest they hatch in May. They are fished along the top of the water to mimic the mayfly. The hackles of the fly copy insect leg movements on the water. Trout go into a feeding frenzy when they appear and many a specimen has been caught. No hard or fast rules apply when retrieving.
